Renovations And DIY

Create a Fresh Look with Renovations and DIY Remodels

No matter how beautiful a room may be, they all eventually need a little polishing up and sometimes need a whole new look. Whether you have lived in your home for years, or you have just moved in, it is time to think about renovations or your DIY projects. Follow these steps to make your project a successful one:

Choose Your Design

You need a vision. Are you French Country or a more modern Scandinavian style? Are you a minimalist or a maximalist? These are just a few of the questions you should be asking yourself.

Gather some inspiration to help you with what you want your end product to look like. Take a look around the room and write down what you want to change. You might want to paint, update the flooring, get new light fixtures, install countertops, and redo the bathroom or ensuite, the options are endless.

Now that you know what you would like to change in your home, you should consider looking online for inspiration. There are so many websites, articles, apps, and influencers, to help you along this journey. To keep all of your ideas together, because it can be overwhelming, consider creating Pinterest boards, downloading and printing off pictures of products, and colors that you like to help you. These will all help you in the planning stage.

Set Your Budget

After you have your design but before you make your plan, take the time to set a budget. It is so important, to be honest with yourself and your designer/contractor during this step. There are numerous options in all budget ranges, and it would be terrible for you to fall in love with a product that is not realistic for you. No budget is too big or too small, but we do suggest a little wiggle room just in case there are any surprises down the road.

Make Your Plan

Your design and budget are set, now it’s time to plan your project with Birch Hill Interiors & Co. We will work with you; your design and your budget to ensure everything works together.

If you find that your project might be over budget, you have a couple of options. The first is to tweak your design. Sometimes you can find a very similar look for a lower cost. However, if your heart is set on a certain product, you can either find a way to add some extra cash to the budget or spread your timeline out a little farther.

Order and Purchase Your Supplies

Next, if this is a DIY project it's time to order your products and supplies.  However, if you have contracted us to do your installation and your work, we will take care of making sure all your products and supplies are ordered, once your products are in we will arrange an install schedule with you.

Get to Work

You now have a solid plan that includes products and supplies as well as an approved budget and timeline for your project.  We all work very hard to stay on budget, but whether it is a DIY project or a contracted project; you should always have some extra funds in your budget for surprises.  This is especially true on large renovation projects where things like mold or hidden wires or structural issues might be discovered.

Experienced contractors, like those at Birch Hill Interiors & Co, can help you get and keep your project on budget and on track - plus if we do the work you will have a solid warranty.
